Fuchs has worked on transforming himself into his great-great-great-great-great-great-aunt, Dorothea Viehmann, who was born in Kassel, Germany, in 1755.

1979 Lima, Peru

Peruvian artist and photographer Christian Fuchs is obsessed with his illustrious ancestors and spends months painstakingly recreating portraits of them, posing for them himself whether the ancestors were men or women. With impressive attention to detail and impeccable precision, Lima-based artist Christian Fuchs recreates passed-down portraits of his ancestors. Fuchs started the series as a way to learn more about his genealogy, and ambitiously aims to embody the family members that came before him.
