Ein sorgfältig inszeniertes Wechselspiel von Farbkontrast
und Raumimagination.
Die Arbeiten wirken zunächst zweidimensional: parallele Farbstreifen, werden auf die Leinwand gebracht, mit Klebebändern überdeckt und dann wieder abgetragen – hierbei hinterlassen sie Spuren und Fragmente was bei näherer Betrachtung Raumillusionen entstehen lässt.
Diese imaginären Räume sind nicht nach dem Prinzip der Dreidimensionalität aufgebaut, sondern entstehen durch die Kontrastwirkung der Farben und verändern sich je nach Blickwinkel und Lichteinfall.

Ruri Matsumoto (born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1981) graduated from the Academy of Arts in Duesseldorf, Germany, in 2013 (Master with Prof. Katharina Grosse), and from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 2004. She took part in several group exhibitions and was nominated for art awards both in Japan and in Germany. She lives and works in Duesseldorf and will now benefit from the Artist in Residency program of the National Art Studio Goyang, Korea.
