Between 1981 and 1983 he settled in New York, United States where he had the opportunity to experiment with new sculptural techniques and foundry materials. He worked as a showcase decorator for prestigious commercial houses. He gave painting and drawing classes at The Door, a youth rehabilitation center as Art Resident, a body dependent on the International Center of Integrative Studies, which allowed him to work in a workshop facilitated by the institution. He exhibited his works in several cities, mainly in New York.
In 1984, as a degree project and professional practice, he did the lighting, paintings, sets, production and visual direction of Ibsen's work «Peer Gynt», a plastic-theatrical work premiered in the Apoquindo room in Santiago; in 1985 he titled himself with the book Los Títeres, a thesis inspired especially by the Japanese Theater «Bunraku» and between 1985 and 1988 he experimented with new techniques with cast metals, making more than 60 sculptures.
During 1987 and 1988, he programmed, designed, managed and directed the restoration of three houses in old Santiago on Huérfanos and Santo Domingo streets.
