Oğuz Büyükberber (b. 1970, Turkey), lives and works in Amsterdam since 2001. Although the artist was born with only ten percent vision, he received many awards with his paintings during childhood and youth; WWF World Widelife Fund Painting Competition, Honorary Mention (1976); Cocuk ’80 National Painting Competition, First Prize, Turkey (1980); National Aviation Foundation Drawing Competition, Honorary Mention, Turkey (1982).

Buyukberber graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Interior Architecture in 1994, which he entered first in 1987. Buyukberber moved to Netherlands in 2001, completed his undergraduate education at the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2005 and his master’s degree at the same school in 2007.

Buyukberber’s work in music received many awards including; Jazz Magazine Readers Poll, Best Instrumentalist (1996, 1997, 1998, 2000); Dutch Jazz Competition, Finalist, Netherlands; New York City Jazz Record Magazine, Honorary Mention, USA (2012).

Artistic commissions include; STEIM Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music, Amsterdam, Netherlands; Karnatic Lab Festival, Amsterdam, Netherlands; Dresdner Sinfoniker, Dresden, Germany; David Kweksilber Big Band, Netherlands; Spreehalle Berlin, Germany. Buyukberber designed more than fifty CD cover, numerous poster designs and illustrations.

Buyukberber’s audiovisual works are exhibited at institutions including; Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands; Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, Netherlands; STEIM, Amsterdam, Netherlands; University of Mexico, Mexico; Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, USA; University of Chicago, USA; Zurich Academy of Fine Arts, Switzerland; Bimhuis Amsterdam, Netherlands.
