drawing in Indian ink on paper

1977 Montreuil, France

Born in 1977, Nicolas Aiello lives and works in Montreuil. He graduated from the Grenoble School of Art.

Surveying the cities, Nicolas Aiello captures scriptures and graphic signs which he sees in order to reproduce them in his drawings, thus intermingling the urban traces isolated from their original environment. The artist weaves an architectural network, composing with the lines of time and writing, suddenly made illegible in rhythmic drawings. Writing and drawing are inseparable for Nicolas Aiello, who devotes himself to linking the two elements obsessively.

Nicolas Aiello’s work has been exhibited in various institutions such as: Musée Singer-Polignac (Paris, 2013), Musée de l’Orangerie (Paris, 2014), Musée Albertina (Vienne, 2015) Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, 2016), URDLA (Villeurbane, 2017), Galeristes (Paris, 2018), Centre d’art Aponia, (Villiers-sur-Marne , 2018), Galerie 9 (Nancy, 2018), galerie Michel Descours (Lyon, 2019).

His works are notably present in the following collections: National Library of France, Collection of contemporary art of the city of Montreuil, Regional Contemporary Art Fund PACA, Departmental Fund of Contemporary Art of Seine-Saint-Denis, Kandinsky Library of Pompidou Center, National Center for Publishing and Printed Art of Chatou, Artotheques of Lyon, Pessac, Grenoble and Saint-Etienne.
