“Monika Kovacs was born and raised in Budapest.
From the age of six she started practicing dance and later she took singing and acting lessons.
She graduated from the Art School with a specialization in History of Art and Modern Dance.
At the age of 20 she moved to Italy, more precisely to Padua, where she still works and lives with her family. She has always been passionate about visual arts, in particular sculpture, in 2012 she began to develop her first clay works, inspired by masters of sculpture such as Igor Mitoraj, Kris Kuksi, Nicola Samorí and Aron Demetz.
In the last years Monika Kovacs has embarked on a personal journey linked to painting, starting to paint abstract visions on tables and canvases with generous textures and compositions of mixed materials ".
Artist statement
“I have always had the need to communicate through the visual field and this type of language has found a way with the sculptures. The transition to tele was natural and took shape early in my imagination.
Instinctively, I arrive at the presence of the texture in my works; a natural passage to maintain the presence of the "volume" of my works. In my work there is a constant search for harmony without starting from concepts to arrive at a realization; I have the illusion of arriving at an idea from my fantasies.
Attracted by the beauty of the seascapes, my canvases are strongly characterized by the colors and shapes linked to the rock, sand, wood bleached by the sea and the sun…. The ancient walls of elegant rustic houses and the smells that characterise them.
My hands elaborate and fix on the canvas the elements of "my" travels in these magical places.”
