View in a Room

This unique work by Meloniski depicts a seascape during a concert. We see the scene divided in two horizontally: the sea and the sky.

At the bottom, coloured fish rise up from the water, carrying on their shoulders the artist's typical slender figures. They are playing various musical instruments, a flute, a double bass and a saxophone.

In the background, on the right, on a green island, stands an illuminated lighthouse to which is tied a rope holding four moons. They are released into the air and form the upper part of the painting. Standing on each moon, there are four other figures who are contributing to the ongoing concert by playing other instruments.

Again, the atmosphere is dreamy, enhanced by the light inserts that make the figures glow. The figures are totally connected both with nature and with each other and thus manage to live in peace and tranquillity in this fairytale world.

The work is signed at the bottom right and stamped at the bottom left.

1943 Villacidro, Italy

Meloniski was born in Villacidro, in Sardinia, in 1943. He is a painter, a sculptor and a ceramist and his distintive trait consist in using many techniques and in the experimentation of different materials.

His works are characterized by a dreamful and fantastic atmosphere: thin shapes fluctuate in nocturnal skies where sparkling stars shine. We can find in his works bright colours and love for uncontaminated nature of his hometown.

Self-taught artist who travels all over Europe until he sets up home in Paris and then in Milan. In French capital he studies ancient masterpieces, modern and contemporary art visiting the great museums.

Meloniski keeps on looking for the truth. His apparently fantastic works hide great metaphores about human beings and his detachment from nature. Even his love for flight is protagonist of his famous retouchés where also fishes and boats plough magic nocturnal seas.
