Luis Alexis De Armas (1964) is a Miami-based surrealist artist.

In 1987, Luis Alexis De Armas met master of printmaking Choco and immediately felt identified with this type of art. He was inspired to learn print making technique which led to a long  friendship between both. 

1990-1992 he assisted his friend Choco at "Taller Experimental de la Grafica" at Old Havana Cathedral square, where he learned the art of printmaking.

1997 he migrated to the United States.

2000 with the help of his son, he built a homemade roller press made of wood, iron pike, and bearings. He continued printing and learning by his own work, the art of Colograph . Later in 2002, he  was able to acquire  a professional press.

2011 he traveled to Choco's workshop in Old Havana for an advanced course in printmaking.

2016 in Miami at his home workshop, he met Choco’s assistant, Jorge Munoz, for a hands-on printing training.

2017 Participated into Art Contest in Wynwood Art Basel Season at Curator's Voice Art Projects Gallery.

2018 Some of his artworks were in exhibition at Alberto Linero’s Gallery in Wynwood until the gallery closed at the end of 2019.

Since 2021 Luis is represented worldwide by BOCCARA ART Galleries.

1964 Havana, Cuba

Luis Alexis De Armas (1964) is a Cuban Miami-based surrealist artist who has a collection that has been inspired on personal experiences and interactions. As it has been noticed, some objects of his work originate from his childhood which makes his projects authentic. His artwork reflects his joy of being alive and through colors he expresses the right to dream.

Since childhood, De Armas, has wanted to study at San Alejandro’s Art School in Cuba, but personal circumstances kept him from meeting his artistic desires. To his advantage, these obstacles did not stop him from following his dream.

As of age of 10 he has participated in the Enrique Jose Varona Children's Library of painting contests while incorporating crayons and water-based colors to his artwork. With his abstract imagination, he was awarded third place in Enrique Jose Varona's contest.

In 1987 He discovered “Taller Experimental de la Grafica", at the Old Havana Cathedral square and immediately identified with printmaking, In which he started visiting the art shop of Old Havana Cathedral. He learned print making techniques by looking at how other artists produced their artwork.

From 1990 through 1992, he assisted Choco's local art shop, which incorporated the learning of printmaking.

 In 1997 he migrated to the United States and in the year 2000 with the help of his son, he built a homemade roller press made of wood, iron pipes, and bearings. He started printing and developing by his own work, such as the art of Collagraphy. Later in 2002, he was able to buy a professional press.

Eventually in 2011, he traveled to Choco's workshop in Old Havana for an advanced course in printmaking.

Then in 2013, he started working with acrylic and oil paintings in order to produce in canvases.

While in 2016, in Miami at his home’s workshop, he met impresser Jorge Munoz, for a hands-on printing training.

In 2017, De Armas participated in an Art Contest at Art Basel Miami in Wynwood’s at Curator's Voice Art Projects Gallery.

Furthermore, in 2018, Some of his artwork was exhibited at Alberto Linero’s Gallery in Wynwood, until the gallery closed at the end of 2019.

Since 2021, he has been represented worldwide by Liubov Belousova from Boccara Art Galleries.

Luis Alexis De Armas, is currently working with resin creating sculptures for the future of his artistic talents and productions. And looks forward to all his upcoming endeavors.
