1950 Rimini, Italy
Color and light, matter and reflection, two- and three-dimensionality : there is all this, and more, in the most recent works of Giovanni Lombardini, (Rimini, 1950). A tireless experimenter of techniques and materials, as innovative in ideas as he is attached to the craft tradition of making, in the series "+ Light," the Romagna artist reaches the point of extreme synthesis of his incessant research, entrusting mordant colors and glossy acrylics with the task of explicating its content and intent: to paint light. Light bulbs lit in the dark, comets landed on the glossy surface, Giovanni Lombardini's painted plates shine with their own light. In the series "Inventories" no reference to the figuration of reality even though these colored plates look like windows or doors that open - or close? - on another world, glimpses into another dimension. And it is here that the urgency of research and the habit of reflection become image and matter, distillations of thoughts and sensations that the 'artist delivers to the viewer.
