Giovan Francesco Gonzaga (Milano 1921 – 2007) is a descendant of the family Gonzaga of Mantova. In his artistic production we can find his noble origins, in fact his favourite subjects are horses, knights and soldiers, apart from landscapes, portraits and still lives. He studied Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti attending Castello Sforzesco and when he was 20 he left to Russian Campaign with Cavalleria Savoia. This strong experience influenced very much his art indeed his loved horse is the protagonist of many paintings, sculptures and poems. He always used classical techniques to paint: oil on canvas, tempera, pencil and watercolour. He devoted his life to painting and realized also illustrations for some literary works like "Odyssey", "Heart" by Edmondo de Amicis and "Moses".
