Gary's journey as a photographer has taken him to shooting fashion, portraits, travel and reportage, but his passion within photography lies in capturing “real-life” moments - focusing on social documentary and people. In 2010 he negotiated a permit to photograph the trainline that runs between Cape Town and Simonstown – The Southern Line. In 2012 – Down The Line was published – which showcases commuting life on one of the oldest trainlines in South Africa. In 2005 he was commissioned to photograph the annual maintenance shutdown on Table Mountain – besides the brief he received from the client, his personal focus was about (Wo)men working with the machinery on a grand scale in such a unique environment. In 2017 his book 'Changing The Lines' was published. He continues to shoot portraits and human-interest stories for clients showcasing what happens behind the scenes. As he writes, he also has had numerous travel and documentary photo-essays published in local and international magazines
