About the Artists

1964 Messina, Italy

As a photojournalist, through his work Fabrizio Villa has been interwining testimonies of events related to social unease, immigration, war, natural phenomena, portraits of protagonists of our time, for over thirty years.

Being a professional journalist since 2002, through his shots he documented the death and destruction of Bosnia, the Intifada in the West Bank, the disastrous earthquakes in Turkey, the eruptions of Etna, the work of the last Calabrian charcoal burners, the injured dignity of the new poor , the difficult condition of Islamic prisoners in Italian prison institutions but also the daily lives of those who have chosen to live in isolation and silence following a spiritual vocation in cloistered convents.

In 2004, the Italian Catholic Press Union awarded him the first prize for a photograph published in the "Corriere della Sera", a dramatic icon of illegal immigration to Sicily, a  phenomenon that he has documented for a long time and from various points of view, recounting the landings in Lampedusa and in other critical places in Sicily, the living conditions in the reception centers, but also following the rescue operations on the Navy ships.

In 2011 he won the Maria Grazia Cutuli International Journalism Award. His images have been published in international newspapers and periodicals such as "Corriere della Sera" "Repubblica", "Panorama", "Famiglia Cristiana", Sport Week",  "Seven", "Republic Friday", "Vanity Fair", "Der Spiegel", "The Times", "Paris Match". He has collaborated with international agencies such as the Associated Press, France Presse and the Contrasto agency. Represented by Getty Images, he collaborates with "La Lettura", a cultural supplement to the "Corriere della Sera", where he holds a photography column.

He specializes in aerial photography.
Many of his reports have become exhibitions.
