Acrylic on Baltic Birch.
New York, United States
Her minimalistic style is not based solely on reduction, but involves a bit of modification, layering, and subtraction with both a painterly and sculptural approach. It is a physically labor-intensive and intuitive process where she preserves the happy accidents and focuses on developing surface structure, form and color variations until she finds balance. She pushes paint, sand layers, drag pencils, rip paper, and manipulate the materials until she finds something interesting.
A native New Yorker, Christie Owen has lived in Oklahoma since 1997. Her 2D and 3D works are included in local and national museums, galleries, public venues, private collections, and retail locations. Her paintings are featured on both the TV series “Better Call Saul” and the film “Hosea.” Her work is represented by Lilac Gallery in Manhattan and Objet Trouvé in Oklahoma. She continuously exhibits her work around the world and is also a highly sought after commission artist. Currently, her art will be on display at ArtBox Projects in Zurich, Switzerland this summer. She also is the co-founder and curator of Verbode Urban Core Artists quarterly art exhibits. Christie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design from State University of New York College at Buffalo.
