1992 L'Aquila, Italy

Through invented folklore and intertwined beliefs, Beatrice Celli (1992, L’Aquila) creates a personal mythology that invites us to imagine new worlds.

In the mystical and popular culture, especially that of her region, Abruzzo in Italy, she seeks a spirit of independence to exorcise the tensions of the present time.

Her sculptures, performances, texts and installations integrate humble and raw materials, artisanal know-how or neglected stories. The magical power of its symbols is embodied in a gesture ranging from spontaneity and impulsiveness, to care and ritual. His pieces are often imagined in groups, according to a scenographic, organic and immersive whole. By stimulating an anthropological perspective, his objects reveal an apotropaic, almost magical meaning, like contemporary cult objects freed from all religious dogmatism.

Beatrice Celli studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino (Italy), in Rome, and at the Villa Arson in Nice. In 2019, she attended the Offshore School, a postgraduate arts program in Shanghai.

Her work has been exhibited at the Kleine Humboldt Gallery in Berlin, the Venice Biennale, the Shanghai Visual Arts Institute and Sonnenstube in Lugano, Switzerland, among others.

She likes to work in heterogeneous contexts: in 2017, she created the project "CalceViva", activated in contexts of revitalization of degraded public spaces, and in 2021 she presented the solo-show "Pandæmonium" in the municipal windows of Castelli (TE) Italy during containment. She works between Castelli (Teramo, IT) and Marseille (FR).

Selected for the ACROSS # 31 residency at the Kaunas Artists' House in Lithuania from July 5 to 25, 2021, as part of the “Kaunas - European Capital of Culture 2022” program, she is also preparing a personal exhibition to be held at the Villa Arson in Nice in October 2021.
