1928 Nice, France

Arman, whose real name is Armand Pierre Fernandez, was born in Nice in 1928. Here he attended the school of Decorative Art and then the Louvre art school in Paris.                                                                                                                                                                           He was a French painter and sculptor, and the founder and major exponent of the artistic current Nouveau Realisme, which focuses on marginal and unused objects of society. After the early fifties, he completely detaches himself from traditional painting and begins to produce the famous stamps, obsessively replicated on paper. Afterward, he moved to traces and imprints. In the 60s, the artist started to focus on industrial and urban objects, as a new way of expression. He gave a new life to these objects, breaking them, dissecting and assembling them. For this reason, he called himself "a painter who makes sculpture," as his works have no clear boundaries and can be considered both painting and sculpture. In fact, he often used scraps and waste in its production that would enhance through the colors.                                                                                                                                                                                                         Arman died in New York in 2005 and was buried in Paris.
