ANDREU ALFARO (Valencia, 1929 - Rocafort, 2012).

Self-taught sculptor, he began his artistic activity in the late fifties with a sculpture of constructivist heritage to develop, in the following three decades, a changing and diversified work, but faithful to certain basic conceptions: the assimilation into the artistic creation of the methodology of the processes and industrial materials, a synthetic vocation in the form and the conviction that the sculpture must recover its public and commemorative character.

He made his first individual exhibition in 1957 and 1958. He has participated in the Venice Biennale several times (1966, 1976 and 1995), and his works are frequent at prestigious fairs in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Basel, Paris or Madrid. Among his more than fifty individual exhibitions, we can highlight the important retrospectives of 1979 at Velázquez Palace of the Retiro Park in Madrid and in 1991 at Valencian Institute of Modern Art; and the exhibitions of the year 1989 at Galerie de France in Paris, in 2000 at Josef Albers Museum in Quadrat Bottrop, and in 2001 at Beelden aan Zee Museum in Den Haag, Scheveningen.

Special mention should be made of his almost one hundred monumental sculptures, built at surprising scales and with a vocation to integrate into public spaces as true collective monuments, found in many Spanish cities (Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, ​​Burgos, Gerona), in Germany (Cologne, Mainz, Frankfurt ...) or in the USA (New York).
