Andrea Mariconti was born in 1978 and graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera 2001. He now lives and works in Milan and Cremona. Mariconti uses natural ash, wax, petroleum and soil, to make his paintings. The only conventional oil colour used is white. His paintings explore the complex relationships between materials and memory. Since 2005 he has regularly worked in Kosovo teaching art therapy to child victims of war traumas, and also devotes time to teaching disabled students at a drama school. He is influenced by the works of Anselm Kiefer with whom he studied during the installation of the Seven Heavenly Palaces at the Hangar Bicocca in Milan. As well as working prolifically on his ongoing series of ash and petroleum paintings Mariconti has also worked in laboratories in the social health sector, in both Italy and South Africa.
