  • About the work

Romano Boccadoro recycles all kinds of objects, he transforms them, painting and manipulating them, so to change their meaning. His ideas overcome the mere functionality of objects, and through a sudden artistic and poetic inspiration Boccadoro provides old and damaged items with a new life and a new scope. Some of his works are designed to slowly self-destroy: “They are as perishable as life” he says. He keeps inspirations in the back of his mind, waiting for them to be completed before finalizing a work. Thus, many of his works may await for a final intervention for a long time. They are complex, expensive, often tiring realizations.

About the Artists

1958 , Italy

Romano Boccadoro was born in 1958, near Mantua (Italy).

He is an eclectic artist and has participated in various relevant exhibitions. The Councilor for Culture of the Mantua Municipality, Paolo Gianolio, addresses him as "difficult to be placed in the artistic panorama” as he says “any attempt to define Boccadoro’s work would be reductive, whether you consider Arte Povera or Conceptual Art or Alchemy”.

His work expresses the desire to move the observer. Being amazing, desecrating, perhaps irritating sometimes, it is always characterized by a profound poetic side, often expressed through images and lyrics. He recycles all kinds of objects, he transforms them, painting and manipulating them, so to change their meaning. As mentioned, Romano is an excellent painter, but his most remarkable aesthetic practice is not pictorial. His ideas overcome the mere functionality of objects, and through an artistic and poetic inspiration Boccadoro provides old and damaged items with a new life and a new scope. Some of his works are designed to slowly self-destroy: “They are as perishable as life” he says. He keeps inspirations in the back of his mind, waiting for them to be completed before finalizing a work. Thus, many of his works may await for a final intervention for a long time. They are complex, laborious, often tiring realizations.

Boccadoro produced elegant installations such as “Don't deprive me of my hatred (Tribute to Philip Glass); Song from liquid days; The observer's book of ship" an installation of art books and vases at the Carpi Art Gallery (Modena); “Lavoro ad Arte”, MU.VI. civic gallery of contemporary art, Viadana (Mantua); Libri d’Artista, Centra Fiera del Garda, Montichiari (Brescia); Folie a deux in collaboration with Gianni Bondavalli, Testoni Gallery, San Zeno (Vr). Moreover, he is the author of the poetic collection Poeta Rebis and he wrote and published “Boccadoro Art Book”, a book about botany, biology, architecture and alchemy.
