Aleksey Pavlovich Solodovnikov (1928-2017) was a true master of classical painting. His depictions of the beauty and variety of the Ukraine landscape and people reflect his own feelings of peace and joy about his homeland.
Mr. Solodovnikov was born in Yaroslavl, a bustling commercial center some 250 kilometers (160 miles) northeast of Moscow. He began studying art at the age of six; he later graduated from the state art institute in Kiev.
After his graduation, Mr. Solodovnikov’s work was on display in a number of exhibitions locally and abroad, including San Francisco and Florida in the United States. Such was his stature in the art world that his work was a gift from Ukrainian President Victor Uschenko to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice.
Mr. Solodovnikov was a member of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine, and the head of Kiev National Union of Artists of Ukraine. His works have found their place in the collections of true connoisseurs, as well as the most prestigious museums and galleries in Western Europe, the U.K., Eastern Europe, and Asia.
