About the Artist

1996 Torino, Italy

At the age of 17, Alberto Selvestrel approached photography with particular attention to the landscape. Two years later he deepened his research by self-studying and decided to focus on the anthropic landscape and its modifications, starting to develop his personal style characterized by geometric and minimal compositions. Selvestrel’s research aims at condensing the maximum level of his conceptual expression into the minimum level of form.

The feeling of stunned amazement that Alberto Selvestrel’s photos give is similar to the one you always get by reading masterpieces of Greek lyric poets.  A splendid combination of synthesis and luminosity that invites those who look to get lost, but at the same time rediscover themselves in these landscapes which are lifeless, yet so calming and poetic.

Selvestrel’s poetry flies high, and takes us into a world where human crafting and nature coexist without tension, creating a new form of deep beauty allowed by a mutual integration of the two. This relation has been attempted for years and finally found by Alberto Selvestrel in a relationship of cohesion between his distonic vision of the world and striking architectural geometries.

These are the purest circles, rectangles and straight lines that integrate with the natural forms of the sea and of the geometrical sky which form the symbol and flag of this coexistence of work between nature and human crafting. However, the human figure is never present: almost as if to signify that these two worlds, architecture and nature, can one day be integrated but only without man.

The palette, the range of colors that are being used, is delicate and almost paradisiac. This is a world where man seems to disappear, leaving internal peace and silence which the author seems to enhance. Contemplative and almost monastic peace; silence leads to contemplation and the research of one’s inner sense of geometry.

Listening to the slight sound that we figuratively hear in art, is perhaps, the key to the new found, long sought balance. Splendidly anonymous places are captured and perhaps lead one’s inner search further than complex, astonishing works. These sensitive figures and poetry veiled by slight nostalgia of a lost balance that only the artist could rediscover with his knowledgeable work. Selvestrel’s work is a splendid example of a personal reading of the world, and isn’t this the job of an artist? Alluding to reality to create a personal and interpretative truth.
