Galerie des Glaces II is one of three paintings of this size. After much deliberation (almost three years), Adéle decided to call her paintings silver: Mirror Memories Series. The aesthetic of the polished mirrors inspired her in the Hall of Mirrors in Versaille. The mirrors receive all visitors in the room. Adéle then extrapolates that these mirrors contain an image or memory of every person who has ever been in the room.
These paintings investigate the materiality of layers of paint in a painting. Adéle painted multiple layers of colour over a heavily textured background. It is extremely labour-intensive and consists of hundreds to hundreds of layers of coloured paint.
The top layer of the painting is silver. The finished artwork is then sanded as a final step with a sand mill. This makes visible the multitude of layers of paint that make up the painting. This draws attention to the material of the painting, which refers to the artistic movement of Spatialism. The material that makes the painting and not a figurative object or brushstrokes.
