  • About the Artist

Victor Cicansky (b. 1935, SK) is known for his sculpted ceramics that celebrate his love of gardening and his Prairie upbringing. After completing a degree in Education, Cicansky studied ceramics at the Regina College School of Art in 1967 followed by an MFA at the U. of California, Davis. Returning to Saskatchewan, he took a position at the U. of Regina and established a studio. Taking part in a 1973 sculptural clay exhibition at the MacKenzie Art Gallery, interest in his work grew as part of the Regina Clay Movement (1968-88). Together with Joe Fafard, Russell Yuristy and other ceramic artists, Cicansky exhibited in Paris and across Canada in touring exhibitions. 

Cicansky is member of the Order of Canada. He is recipient of the Victoria and Albert Award for Ceramic Sculpture, and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal.  His artwork is held in private, corporate and public collections including the MacKenzie Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Art.
