  • About the Artist

Thomas Granslev is best known as Neo-expressionist painter, master of spontaneous form and color.

Born in 1967 in a small town in Denmark.  Since he was 17 he was taken by this urge to express himself thru art.  He would draw but not very well.  One day he decided to start painting and working with colors, gave a new meaning to his life.  His abstract acrylic on canvas paintings sold easily, surprising positively the artist.

Granslev attended some classes at a local Art School developing different techniques but most of his work was self-taught.

However, Granslev had to work on different jobs for many years before going back to his brushes.  But life crises and experiences are the driving force of his work and the rush to paint again stroke Granslev.
The remarkable colors and forms on his abstract paintings are result of his life moments and circumstances. Nature also plays a huge part as inspiration - new colors are found in nature, shadows and light.

Many artists have inspired him.  Egon Schiele, Austrian figurative painter known for his intensity. The Danish painter, poet, sculptor and film maker Per Kirkeby and of course, Van Gogh. Picasso said he had to paint his whole life to learn how to paint like a child.   Gransley has apparently been there already due to his expressionist spontaneity.
