Primarily self-taught as an artist, Leal is known for deco-style images of fashionable men and women that have been compared to work by Patrick Nagel. In 1989 and 1990 he produced more than 180 illustrations of pop stars, having been commissioned by Dick Clark Productions for use as backdrops for the American Music Awards.
