Stefano Ricci was born in Bologna in 1966, he lives in Hamburg. Draftsman, since 1985 he has collaborated with periodical printing and publishing in Italy and abroad (Frigidaire, Per Lui, Dolce vita, Avvenimenti, Linea d'ombra, il manifesto, Esquire, Panorama, Teléma, Extra, Glamor, HP, Follow me, Libération, Les Inrockptibles, Internazionale, Alias, Lo Straniero, Télérama, L'Humanité, Bang, la Repubblica, Mondadori, Rizzoli, Einaudi, Salani, E. Elle, L'Ancora, Carocci, Forum, etc.).

In 1989 he published his first book, Dottori, which was followed by Ostaggi nello spazio, Don Giovanni (selected at the Biennial of Illustration in Bratislava), Il magnifico libro del Signor Tutto and Lamioche. Starting from the drawing he works for the theater: collaborating with the Testoni Theater, the company of Leo De Bernardinis, the Teatro della Polvere, Modica Machisi, La Soffitta Theater; for the dance: since 1996 he has curated the projects of Raffaella Giordano and the Compagnia Abbondanza Bertoni; and for the cinema: with Mario Martone and Giovanni Maderna.

Since 1994 he has signed coordinated image projects and editorial series for which he was selected on the ADI, Design Index 2000, and for the 2001 Compasso d'Oro award. Since 1995 he has curated the series of Edizioni Grafiche di Squadro (Bologna) with Giovanna Anceschi; and in 1996 they founded the magazine Mano fumetti scritti disegni together.

Since 2003 he has been the artistic director of Bianco e nero magazine of the Experimental Center of Cinematography in Rome and teacher of the course in comics and contemporary graphics at DAMS Gorizia, University of Udine.
