  • About the Artist

Stefan Eichhorn was born in 1980 in Dresden, Germany. He lives and works in Marseille, France.

The history of countercultures and the history of technological evolution have constantly intersected over the last sixty years until they sometimes meet and develop a common interest in the construction of a new world. It is on this premise that an important part of Stefan Eichhorn's work is built, on these utopias which, from popular cultures to the most advanced fields of space engineering, invent horizons.

When he looks at the appropriation of architect Richard Buckminster Fuller's geodesic dome model by the hippie community, as well as its exploitation for scientific experiments such as "Biosphere 2", he creates a set of sculptures that can be read as the living spaces of technophile communities. The imaginary of science fiction, conquest, exploitation and space ecology, popular and scientific culture ... feed the work of Stefan Eichhorn, these fields of research meet an economy of means made of recycling and cheap materials. Would the utopian elsewhere that Stefan Eichhorn summons be only an illusion?
