Silvia Yapur

She is a Mixed Media artist and passionate about her daily work. She likes to intuitively incorporate different materials needed for each work. Her career began with painting. She continued in this media for several years. However, once she began working with textiles, things changed. She seemed to quickly connect with the special environment created by threads, fabrics, scissors, chalk, measuring tapes and sewing machines that she had been exposed to throughout her childhood sitting on her grandparents' work bench - both were tailors. She was surrounded by artistic craft her entire life as a carpenter's daughter and a live model for a seamstress aunt. It is quite easy for her to fuse textile artisanship with new technologies. She also likes paper, ink, magazines; in fact, this was how she came to understand printmaking especially that constant play of negative and positive space. Her aesthetic language is primarily centered on the creation of collages, using diverse techniques throughout her artistic training and experiences.
