Sebastián Espejo (Viña del Mar, 1990) is a painter who lives and works in the Valparaíso region. His realistic paintings lead us to encounter the everyday environment, with scenes and spaces that lack major events: the morning light that filters through the leaves, the brightness of the sun on the sea, a long shadow cast on the wall. There is no epic or narrative feats; rather, there is the encounter and the constant trade of a painter who inhabits his environment and translates the experiences and observations of light into painting.
Visual exercises where the poetics and beauty of domestic things are sought, the meeting of the elements and their affectation by light. For Sebastián, painting is a method to build subjectivity and to reflect on it. It is a practice rooted in the sensitive, in the territory and in individual experiences; and ultimately, a sharing of that observation through the language of painting.
Sebastián Espejo was born in Santiago, Chile in 1990. He currently lives and works in Viña del Mar. He studied painting from the age of eight in Sergio Estay's workshops, to later continue his training at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and then the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Santiago, obtaining a degree in visual arts with distinction. He has exhibited collectively in Santiago and in the Valparaíso region. He has exhibited individually in London, Santiago and Concón.
