Romana Zambon is a curious observer of the world and she has no intend to dwell on a single theme or on a single subject. For this reason, it is not easy to place her within a specific category and, although this might seem a limit as it means that she is not specialized in a single direction, it is, on the contrary, an advantage as it means that she knows how to appreciate the different shapes of creativity developing a precise aesthetic path.

As an expert traveler, she had several occasions of confronting herself with different cultures and it was precisely during one of her travels that her artistic journey began. However, what could be defined a specific area of action - that of travel reportage - did not seem to completely satisfy Zambon: to the narrative rhythm and synthesis of the story she immediately preferred the meticulous investigation of details, the taste for the chromatic contrasts found in landscapes as in people's faces, the attention to unusual architectural and non-architectural geometries.

It was in this initial phase of her research that Romana Zambon deepened her essential technical and aesthetic knowledge, refining her sense of composition without ever abandoning either her immediate approach to subjects or the taste for spectacularism that would later emerge as a central feature of her style.

This last aspect distinguishes the following works, which also evolve in opposite directions: on the one hand, the investigation of old motorcycles taken as if they were sculptures that stand out against the black background, displaying colours and rust as elements of an evident materiality, and on the other, the research on flowers dominated by a persuasive plasticity and a taste for detail that borders on abstraction.

A further step led the photographer to dialectically merge the two previous results and to create, "Reflections", a work on urban space. Reflectionsis about the deformations of images as a result of their reflections on the metal surface of a sculpture as if to reiterate that every abstraction is nothing more than an underlining of the subjective gaze of those who look and interpret reality. It is a motif that returns in a further research set in the marble quarries transformed into an imposing and icy theatrical environment where the spectacularism is now combined with the echo of a declared surrealism.

Romana Zambon keeps working on the concept of space, but in recent times she has shifted her attention from macro sizes to micro ones, from the landscape to the still life, and she does so once preserve the characteristics of previous styles. In her new works, she composes in a thousand variations a series of bottles with beautiful shapes playing in the same measure with colors, shadows, transparencies, lights, volumes, unpredictable combinations, to arrive at photographs that are characterized by their originality and that help us to look at the world with the same curiosity with him observes the author.

(ROBERTO MUTTI)

The career of photographer Romana Zambon, Milanese by adoption, architect and lover of photography, began with some participation in charity auctions.
"I've always been attracted by the power of colour that I associate with various moods" says Romana when she talks about her passion for photography which she has transformed into a profession and continues explaining that "this element, together with the harmony of forms, strikes my attention and turns it into a snapshot, in an instant, into photography".
