  • About the Artist

Paul Maciejowski (Berlin 1980), completed his painting studies in 2011 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf as a Meisterschüler by Jörg Immendorff and Peter Doig. After college, he started the concept of painting in areas of international crisis, renting a studio or doing field research in different areas for three months a year. Serious studies began in Colombia, Bolivia and Trinidad and Tobago, followed by the poorest village in Western Europe, Rabo de Peixe, in the Azores. Then, a three-month stay in Kiev to research what happened there in 2014, led to another three-month residency in the warring eastern Ukraine.

He currently lives in the Canary Islands and works on a project based on the arrival of refugees on the islands.

Paul's paintings, watercolors and engravings seek images between poetry and journalism, have made painting fragments of our world. His new work is mainly open-air painting, taking the images and stories straight out of reality, primarily using Japanese papers to achieve the highest possible quality.
