Olivier Vassout was born in Mulhouse in Alsace in 1977. From an early age, he exercised his interest in drawing and modeling. His creations are nourished by numerous journeys where he discovers the power of Nature. The United States first of all with the immensity of its national parks. But also, the meeting with the first peoples in the United States then in Canada. His work is still inspired today by the harmony with which these peoples live with the Earth.
Olivier chooses a plastic arts option for his baccalaureate. He is interested in mixed techniques, pencils, charcoal, acrylic, oil. He trained during summer internships with ceramists (Lauriane Firoben, Tessa Guilbaud...) but also with the Art School of Douai. He is particularly interested in low temperature firings in pits or paper ovens. This allows you to connect with the four elements of earth, water, air and fire. By entrusting his sculptures to the magic of fire, Olivier seeks to immortalize the delicate throbbing of life. He pushes the limits of movement to a fragile balance, a tension that arouses emotion. He lets his intuition guide his hands in expressing our vulnerability.
The evolution of his work follows the course of his travels. In Peru, he goes to meet shamans. He is marked by their knowledge of the invisible and of the subEls worlds. He also has the chance to visit pre-Columbian temples and discover the richness of primitive arts.
It was in Mongolia, in February 2020, in contact with shamans, that Olivier discovered that his ArEsEque creation must take on another dimension. On his return, he decides to devote himself entirely to drawing, painting and sculpture with also the need to share his art in the encounter with the public.
