  • About the Artist

Born in 1981, Nathalie Hugues lives and works in Marseille. She graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Marseille in 2010.

"An important part of Nathalie Hugues' work reflects the way she looks at assemblages, the more or less fortuitous dialogue between elements present in the public space.

Her work is the expression of an interest in these accidental compositions that she captures through photography and transforms through painting. The real is given to see naked, with humor. Fragments of a suburban area, a municipal swimming pool, a "provincial garage", sculptures for windows or gardens...

The overflows of the domestic space are framed with precision and the painting participates in the existence of these transparent worlds in the everyday life. These are portraits," explains the artist. Portrait of a bush, a lamp post, a railing, an EDF cabinet. "

Explorer of landscapes, she works in-situ surveying the territories during long wanderings in the streets of cities and villages. Nathalie Hugues also likes to tell stories through the films she makes, in which it can be a question of the (super) heroic becoming of her painting or a strange rereading of Aztec history. "
