  • About the Artist

Mauro De Carli was born in Sesto San Giovanni in 1980 and lives and works in Milan.
He studied at the experimental course of Contemporary Sacred Art at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, and was able to assimilate different languages of the visual arts and multiple expressive solutions that finally find a synthesis in painting and graphics.
After an initial phase (which makes up the Sapiens² series), centred on the re-elaboration of anthropological contents, aimed at the search for the difficult balance between regress of the roots and in-progress experimentation of contemporary languages, follows a subsequent phase (Crisis series) where the continuous search for experimental languages is concentrated in new visual solutions in which the attention is focused on the often strategic mechanisms of current art and the social context in which it develops. Topical issues emerge where the contradictory character of contemporary problems finds synthesis and solution in images with different layers of reading and interpretation.
The latest research, however, concerns a return to the traditional dimension of painting: in the ESSERECONTINUOPRESENTE series, an "extended" dimension of time and space is evoked, suspended and dreamlike. It is evident that he has moved away from a close-up view of his own time and context to elaborate a "sacred mythology" in which microcosm and macrocosm, elements of the present, past and future come together, mixing with each other to narrate those anthropological themes that have always underpinned his work.
He is particularly committed to graphics, researching drawing as binary writing, an immediate synthesis of thought, and has also produced several artist's books using engraving techniques.
Since 2000 he has presented his work in various personal and collective exhibitions in private galleries and public spaces in Italy and abroad.
He has also been selected for several national and international awards, receiving important recognition.
His graphic and pictorial works are present in several private and private collections in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, France, England, China and Brazil. He has done several public works including an altarpiece in the church of Lugnacco (Ivrea) and one of his works is present in the Civic Museum of Fano (PU), one in the MAiO Museum of Cassina de Pecchi (MI) and one in the town hall of Bussero (MI).
Since 2010 he has been a teacher at the Liceo Artistico and annually holds collaborative positions at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera.
In 2018 he published with the publisher Gribaudo/Feltrinelli the book INSTANT ARTE where he elaborated a new method of popularization of art and its history.
