Margriet Smulders (1955) lives and works in Nijmegen. Smulders photographs flowers in a homely, theatrical setting. Her work breathes new life into the genre of the time-honored flower still lifes. Her flower arrangements carry a social relevance with their reference to feminism. The flowers, largely from her own garden, represent for Smulders her own femininity, motherhood, sexuality, her vitality and at the same time her vulnerability. Smulders’ work is represented on an international level in numerous museums, corporate and private collections.
