  • About the Artist

Marcela Barrios, Colombian photographer.

Her work is an invitation to reveal universes through an intimate writing where territories and diversity play a major role.

She uses mainly silver techniques, mainly in medium and large format, but also old prints.

Her register is mainly documentary and uses poetic narratives to describe conflicts and the decolonization of territories.

Beyond her training in photography, she also studied journalism in Colombia.

In France, she obtained a degree in Comparative Politics at Sciences-Po Aix, which allowed her to adopt a sociological approach in her work.

She works on issues of the Mediterranean world and the Arab and Muslim world, as diversity, decolonization, and the OTHER are at the center of her research.

Her work was selected by the Prix Roger Pic de la SCAM in 2019 for her project "Bazuko", and winner by "The International Women Photographers Award", IWPA, for the project "Algeria, the mysterious giant" in 2017.

She has also been awarded by the "Paris Match Student Prize" and the Italian-Latin American Institute's prize in the International Photo Festival of Rome.

Today, she lives in Paris. Member of the Hans Lucas Agency, she is also resident at the 6B artists' studios in Saint-Denis.
