  • About the Artist

The "D." is for embellishment and to address numerology, says superstitious Mara smiling. It seems that its use has been beneficial up to now. Mara moved with her family from Porto Alegre when she was young. At the time, she already showed signs of being skilled at drawing and of having familiarity with colours. During her adolescence, she began to create backdrops for the school's theatre with gouache. She started working in publishing companies around the age of 16, mostly in art departments, which provided her with experience and opportunities.
After she married and had two kids, she moved to São Paulo. At the invitation of professor Pietro Maria Bardi in 1983, she had her first solo exhibition at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo. She also had solo exhibitions at Galeria Uniâo Cultural Brasil-EUA in São Paulo (1987), at Galeria Nini Barontini in Curitiba (1996) and at Galeria Jacques Ardies in São Paulo (2008).  She participated in several group shows in the USA, Spain, Russia, Malaysia, France, Israel, Monaco among other places.   Her compositions, which are inspired on the countryside of Brazil, depict scenes with joyful, beautiful and healthy people. She likes to depict the work in harvests and other moments in the countryside, such as the hours of leisure and festive celebra tions.
The welcome calmness of the small inland towns, the relaxation of those who let life pass placidly and bull carts fill Mara's canvases with a pleasant simplicity that allow her value as an artist to shine through.
