Born in the rural Cowichan Bay of Vancouver Island, Linzy Arnott started drawing as a child and quickly discovered creating art was her greatest passion in life. At the age of 15, Linzy entered her first art competition, winning first place. As a result, she was flown to Ottawa as a representative for British Columbia in the Canada Day Poster Contest, as well as garnering her a placement in the Canadian Children’s Museum.

Always determined to be an artist, Linzy demonstrated her talent and drive to grow in her formal pursuit of an art education. After having won a full scholarship to the Art Institute of Vancouver for graphic design, Linzy later chose to enrich her already vast knowledge by continuing her studies at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design for painting. Her daughter’s miraculous birth in 2011 was the final push Linzy needed to make the final leap and quit her graphic design job and embrace a life as a full-time artist. She has not looked back since. When she is not painting for herself, she teaches art practices for people at all levels to unleash their creativity through paint to free themselves in life.

A visceral extension of her soul, Linzy’s paintings are deeply influenced by her life experiences and the details she finds in her surroundings. Inspiration comes from the places she explores, whether it be from: rainy seascapes of her hometown, to the texture of rust infected architecture, to the environments she discovers in her dreams – places where Linzy finds unspeakable beauty. Not only is her art-making a continuous study in the medium, but it is also an outlet for her constant spiritual pursuit. She creates with emotion, drawing on memories and experiences to convey mood and feeling into her pieces. Her intuition and experimentation in many different art forms has led Linzy to her true love in acrylics and textural mediums. With acrylic as her base, Linzy incorporates mediums including liquid leaf, metallics, gold leaf and varnishes. She has created unique techniques to achieve her texture and color, at times totaling over 40 layers on one painting. Her layering process is a conversation in paint, adding and taking away as each layer acts to communicate her truth on the canvas. Thus, her art is as much a therapeutic meditation for Linzy as it is for her viewers.

Now living her childhood dream, Linzy is currently represented by Art Works in Vancouver, as well as Enchantress Gallery in Maui. Her works are collected nationally and internationally, garnering her praise and awards throughout her prolific career.
