  • About the Artist

Ivonaldo began his art career in 1966. His first solo exhibition was held at Galeria KLM in São Paulo. In 1973, he participated in the International Art Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany, in the Salon International d'art Contemporain in Paris, and in the Salon Mondial de la Peinture Naïve in Levallois, France. The following year, he participated in the 3rd Triennial of Bratislava in Slovakia. He lived in Europe for five years, holding solo exhibitions in cities such as Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne, Brussels, Florence, London, and Trebnje.
As of 1980, he had a sequence of eight individual shows at Galeria Jacques Ardies, the last of which was carried out in Zurich, Switzerland at a makeshift space. He placed second at the International Naïve Art Contest which was organized by Galerie Jeannine Blais in Canada.  In 2003, he was chosen by the Swiss as the best artist in the Prix Suisse de Peinture Primitive Moderne, organized by Pro Arte Kasper Gallery in Morges, Switzerland.
His work is on display at some of the most important museums. In Brazil, they are in the collections of the Museu de Arte Contemporânea, the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, and the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, and the Museu Internacional de Arte Naïf in Rio de Janeiro. In France, they are in the Muséed'Art Naïf in Béraut Condom, in the Musée Rousseau in Laval, and in the Musée Anatole Jakovsky in Nice. In the Netherlands, they are in the Stadof Museum Voor Naive en Outsider Kunst. 
In 2002, Jacques Ardies compiled a book about Ivonaldo’s life and work entitled Ivonaldo, Pintores Naifs Brasil with text by professor Jorge Anthonio e Silva.
