ARTIST STATEMENT
Over the past year, my work has transitioned from being a process-based outlet for exploring the structure of language, mainly the relationship between the positive and negative space as formulated by Lacan, into a much more personal reckoning of who I am as a subject in the context of painting’s history. I have moved away from a fast-paced, chance-based studio practice in which abstraction was merely a mode of organizing information and into utilizing painting to ask questions on the medium itself, in relation to identity, belonging, and universality.
