The artist's works are included in the collections of Achmea Kunts Collection and Istanbul Modern Art Museum, as well as private collections in USA, France and Belgium.

Gul Ilgaz's works consist of photographs, videos and installations, and are predominantly shaped around identity, cultural hybridity, gender and social roles, internal conflicts, traces created by life, moods, memory and urban issues. The autobiographical process, which constitutes the common denominator of her works, is a product of her personal experiences, but it emerges overlapping with the social subconscious.

As an artist coming from the tradition of painting, it is possible to see the traces of this tradition in her compositions. Instead of photographing the world, she uses photography as a tool to transform the world she fictionalizes with images into a work. It recreates the images that it collects with the camera or edits it by means of digital technology. At the stage of shifting the boundaries of the photograph, her works turn into video as moving images, photo installations and sometimes three-dimensional works.
