Gonzalo trained at the Pierre Moor School of Visual Arts (Switzerland), where he received a scholarship. At the Pierre Moor studio, he learned painting and sculpture techniques. He has exhibited in Switzerland, Colombia, Italy, Santos, São Paulo at Casagaleria Loly Demercian, and will now present new works at Galeria Gourmet in São Paulo from May 22 to June 20, 2014. With undeniable sensitivity, he has developed an extraordinary concept of artistic creation. Influenced by the visual artist Alejandro Obregón Rosés, his gaze turned to misery, specifically to lonely and abandoned people on the streets of large metropolises. He uses low tones, sometimes with subtle brushstrokes of red, highlighting a scene that reflects lived reality, drawing the viewer into the painting's own world, as if entering its colors and forms, taking hold of the figures of the characters depicted, as if waiting for a response to their fragility in the world of large metropolises. Gonzalo manages to create an almost always continuous and seamless space where, although always unsettling and full of mysterious characters, he peculiarly, with strong brushstrokes and pain, as if shouting, highlights the coercion of consciousness from his own subjectivity. As a surrealist artist, instead of confronting the chaotic and fragmented reality of contemporary life, Gonzalo turns inward in search of his own consciousness. There lies his sensitivity; that is, he maps in his imagination the spiritual poverty of people, which does not allow us to configure intimacy, giving indications of fragility and loneliness in a contemporary world.
