  • About the Artist
  • Curriculum Vitae

Federico Unia, also known as Omer, was born in Milan on 28 October 1983 and his artistic and cultural background is closely linked and influenced by the bond with his hometown. He graduated from the Caravaggio Art High School in Milan and graduated in Scenography from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera under the professorship of Prof. Comotti.

Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera with honors, he has collaborated since 2004 with the artistic group The Bag Art Factory, parenthesis to date completed, but one of the first fundamental educational experiences. From 2007 to 2019 he is part of the TDK Crew, the historic group of Milanese writers, one of the notoriously stronger realities and rooted in the Italian graffiti writing environment. There are also numerous artistic collaborations in exhibitions, events or project sharing, undertaken over the years with historicized or international artists.

"People often talk about the "bestial" cruelty of man, but this is terribly unfair and offensive to the beasts: an animal could never be as cruel as a man, so cruel in an artistic and creative way" Fëdor Dostoevskij.

As for the subject dealt with by the artist on several occasions, inherent in the world of the "beast", the ideas are many. Specifically, the artist emphasizes the strange evolution and involution of our species with irreverent irony. The continuous progress-regression that is found in many aspects of our society, shows in this series the continuous human contradiction, the reflection on evolution, the bestial aspects of our existence, the criticality of systems vital for us and for all species living on our delicate planet, the precariousness of human relationships as opposed to the unambiguous and independent search for success, worthy of every means ... On the other hand, animals, which are often much more able than us to live our home, actively or passively respecting their destiny in the food chain, able to coexist together in the same territories, where different species draw life, simply following the natural rhythm dictated by our planet, now very weak and not because of them. The man in metamorphosis with the animal encloses all these aspects and stands out on the works of Federico Unia, who often uses as a common language in many of his works to accompany his subjects as a background texture, the urban theme of poster.

These posters that the artist pulls off the road to create a new visual background make-up for his subjects, create a bond of language that Federico chewed in the metropolis, born and raised in Milan, has worked in the field of writing already very young, distinguishing himself often having been part of the crew, contexts and important events since the late 90s, this aspect of culture and the underground of Street-Art, together with this conscious urban contamination, which sees the signs and advertisements in the foreground on the houses and in every corner of the city, they brought Federico to draw inspiration from it and find in all this a visual and communicative expression of his own that takes into account the contamination of the last realities of the 20th century in the history of art.

Street-Art, Pop-Art come together in something new that can be defined as a "post-graffiti", which no longer sees only the wall or the canvas or the spray or the brush as surfaces and techniques, placing stakes in determining a pictorial derivation, but today it spans multiple pictorial surfaces and uses a set of techniques that mix for a new and conscious modus operandi, which often involves the use of sprays, brushes, airbrush, pencil. Very present in the history of the artist is also the revisitation of works by historicized masters of the world of Art History, with quotations ranging from Michelangelo, Rubens, Caravaggio, Luca Giordano and many others, where the expressive language of the poster and the theme of the beast man are persistent. Always with the same expressive key, Federico has also worked on topical and pop-urban key themes, which are highlighted above all in the Superhero series recently created and acquired almost entirely by the Collini brand.
