Edwin Rojas was born in Valparaíso, Chile, in 1957. His paintings show a marked neo-figurativism.
The author has allowed his work to be compared with the magical literary realism of García Márquez or Vargas Llosa, since he feels a great affinity with those imaginary worlds full of recurring symbolic elements where an airplane represents travel and the crossing of borders and a table, the encounter and human coexistence.
Between 1974 and 1975 he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Punta Arenas; Between 1977 and 1981 he studied Pedagogy in Plastic Arts at the University of Chile. In 1989 he obtained a Specialization in Engraving at the Viña del Mar School of Fine Arts and between 1989 and 1990 he completed a Master of Arts at the University of Playa Ancha in Valparaíso.
Between 1993 and 1995 he completed a Master's Degree in Visual Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico with a scholarship granted by the Organization of American States OAS and in 1999 he received a scholarship to attend the Center International D'Etudes Pedagogiques in Paris, France.
He is currently a professor at the Faculty of Art at the University of Playa Ancha in Valparaiso, of which he was also director.
