  • About the Artist

Dirk Liviau was born in 1962 in Kluisbergen (Belgium). He started his training in photography and digital editing at DIART (Waregem) and Kordial (Kortrijk).

After a successful career as a competition photographer, rewarded with the title of "Master for Life", the "World Cup of Digital Images" (2013) and awards from Fiap (International Federation of Photographic Art) and the "Photographic Society of America", he took a period of inactivity for 3 years to discover new horizons in the photography world.

During the Arles photo festival, he met the photo artist Kamil Vojnar (Saint Remi) and a new world opened up.

Since then, this artist has focused on photo assemblages. The surrealist works, composed exclusively of photographed elements, take on a new dimension in the form of digital collages.

A recurring feature of these "Dreamscapes", as Dirk calls them, are the structures (wet or dry concrete, old varnish, cracks in the walls...) that give an aging process to the image.

The works are printed on dilite, dibond and glass (plexi-prémium) by the company Printville (Gant). Themes of current events, as well as street artists and admiration for the works of Vojnar, Magritte, the Bosch brothers and S. Dali characterize the "Dreamscapes". Dali characterize the "Dreamscapes" of Dirk Liviau.

Selections of the "Dreamscapes" have already been exhibited in Belgium, England, France, Romania, South Africa, the Netherlands and the United States.
