  • About the Artist

Born in Besançon in 1992, Denis Macrez graduated from the Ecole Superieur d'Art de Rennes in 2018. He now lives and works in the Paris region.

Denis Macrez's practice has its roots in the forms of nature and their representations throughout the history of art.

By questioning certain objects such as the scallop or cuttlefish bone, he deploys experimental or artisanal techniques to question our ways of perceiving and conceiving these shapes.

By emphasizing certain notions such as curve, roughness or stratification, he lets uncluttered figures emerge that oscillate between real and imaginary. Denis Macrez's sculptures are vestiges, fragments of stranded worlds and invite us to contemplate a world in drift.

Recently returned from a two-month residency in Iceland, Denis Macrez is perfecting his stone sculpture practice in his workshop at the Goldsmith's (Saint-Denis). The artist was notably invited to the inaugural exhibition of the Chapelle XIV gallery (Paris 19th) and had a solo exhibition in La Borne of the art center Le Pays Where the Sky is Always Blue (Center-Val- de-Loire).
