  • About the Artist

Pietro Privitera, born in Milan, 1953. Has always worked as a Photographer. In the 70's he became passionate about still photohraphy and subsequently published a book SCATOLA SCENICA ; conjecturing, through images of dance-theatre, from Bob Wilson to Meredith Monk, about how the stage space is both a screen and a container of virtual geometries. He was among the first photographers in Italy to experiment and make creative research using the Polaroid, producing many images for exhibitions and collections, in Italy, France, Germany and elsewhere throughout the 1970's and '80's. He graduated in Philosophy with a History of the Art thesis, which analyzed the Polaroid as an artistic phenomenon, and the social and psychoanalytic implications of the development of instant photography. In the 80's he collaborated continuously with Italian photographic magazine 'Progresso Fotografico', creating a space which explored the connections between art and photography . In this same period he began working as a fashion photographer which became his main activity. He worked for many years with Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, in Milan and Paris. In 1996 he won the European Kodak award for portraiture. Since 2000 he has been passionately interested in the study of the computer graphics, initially through the web; in recent years with photographic projects which fuse the traditional photo with the new language of digital technology.
