  • About the Artist
Martina Esposito is born in Napoli on November 20, 1991. She studies computer engineering and soon devotes to her real fascination: photography. She wins several awards, like the 2016 grant in photography at the School of Cinema in Napoli, and takes part to international events like TEDx and Sofar Sounds. Beauty is in everything around us, first and foremost where we believe there isn’t enough: according to Martina, photography has to investigate this feature in the harsh and sleazy part of the real world. The hurting side of life is the one that you are afraid to face, that you turn a blind eye to, yet it’s the most powerful: through her shots, the artist aims to make it sacred and induce deep thinking in the viewer. Street photography, gazes lost in space, marginalization, loneliness; yet these pictures deliver hope and beauty, leaving us with an open end, where everything is still possible. “Sometimes, it’s good. It’s good someone reminds us that images are not neutral, that everything around us can be filtered through a light, which sometimes may be cruel and give back a hurting, unclear, unpleasant reality. It’s good, since it helps us feeling part of a context where we are not background players, but key players, performers and authors. And, as such, responsible.” [Francesco Zizola]
