  • About the Artist
Born in 1960, Seoul, South Korea. Lives and works in Uiwang, South Korea. Je Yeoran has been using squeegees, instead of typical tools like brushes, for around thirty years to define her own style of art. Rather than following trends, she has been enthusiastically established her unique aesthetic sense. Je keeps posing fundamental questions about paintings – ‘What is painting’, ‘What painting delivers’, ‘What do audiences feel’, and so on - and demands audiences to be an active participant in seeing and understanding art. Je dismantles organized compositions of a subject and merges it into a background. By entangling various hues through extempore movements, she demonstrates altering energy of nature. Moreover, she physically and spatially reinterprets an abstract border between a subject and background. By reinterpreting the image in her unique ways, Je harmonizes the paintings with the environment and opens a chance for audiences to understand the image in their own ways. Je Yeoran earned bachelor and master degree in Fine Arts at Hongik University, Seoul. She recently had solo exhibitions in Mimesis Art Museum, Paju, Korea (2016) and Indang Museum, Daegu, Korea (2015). She also participated in various group exhibitions at Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, National Museum of Art, Tokyo, International Museum, Osaka, ICAS Museum, Singapore, Kumho Museum, Seoul, and so on. Her works are collected by numerous foundations, including Ludwig Cologne Foundation, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, et cetera.
