Robert Polidori lives and works in New York. He is an internationally renowned photographer specialised in shooting human environments and habitats, and has won many prices, including the World Press Award in 1998. Polidori started his career in the seventies as an assistant in avant-garde film in New York. While living in Paris in the early eighties he began documenting the restoration of Versailles, which he continued doing over a period of thirty years. In his work Polidori often deals with current social topics, such as the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, and the effects of hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Committed to social issues, Polidori continually seeks to show the problems and their consequences on the lives of human beings. In his current work he deals with themes as population and urbanisation, photographing rapidly expanding supercities, or megalopolises, around the world such as Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro and Amman. Robert Polidori has published eleven photo books, such as After The Flood, 2006, and a three-volume compilation of his pictures of Versailles, Robert Polidori: Parcours Muséologique Revisité (2009). His photographs are included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris.
