Kurus is the opposite of the cosmopolitan and driven artist. He works far away from the hustle and bustle of the art metropolises of the world and lets collectors from Paris and Berlin come to his studio. His abstract paintings are untitled, a means of not being corrupted by figuration or titles. Ciphers and streaks run through almost monochrome pictorial landscapes. One can make out echoes of Monet or Cy Twombly, but also of the écriture automatique of the Surrealists.

It is not the depiction of realities, but abstraction and the spiritual and symbolic concealed behind the concrete that is Kurus' intention.

The large-format pictures surprise with an extraordinary effect that is owed to a special application technique: Several layers of synthetic resin, which are reworked with acrylic and oil paints, watercolour chalks, wax crayons and pencils, give the pictures a "3D" appearance.
